Pest Control

Fogging !

One final thing to do ~ pests control and maintenance for rats, cockroaches, flies, ants, and especially MOSQUITOES.   Unfortunately, it is impossible to exterminate these pests 100% (especially MOSQUITOES). Unfortunately too, greens come with mosquitoes (one package) and our beautiful garden IS our outdoor classroom.  Can't have the best of everything and you have to look that the pests mentioned above are also part of nature too (the nasty ones)!

Teachings For Your Kids

Take your children spend time with them doing activities such as sight seeing, the mountains, lake sides, camping etc and come back do a project; which tree does this leaf belong to? You are studying the creations of Allah. Children remember these things it will build bonds between you. You may not find it interesting but your children do. Take them with you when you travel to conferences so that they get in the habit that we travel to seek knowledge.

Teach your children cleanliness ~ no man wants an unhygienic smelling woman and no woman wants an unhygienic smelling man. A Muslim is clean and not dirty and smelly.

Do not curse your children and make duaa against them. And he mentioned a hadith from the Messenger of Allaah narrated by Jabir bin Abdullaah, do not make du'aa against your selves and your children lest it coincides with an hour in which Allaah grants your du'aa Allaahul must'aan!

The Painted School

This is the NEW LOOK of the school, about 80% done. There's another coat of painting to do for the red parts, the windows and to tidy up tight areas and corners. Somehow the red doesn't look very red and the yellow doesn't look that bright yellow! The lawn has been mowed, plants trimmed and pruned ~ looks really lovely ! Next week, we will be all back in school, FULL FORCE ~ to ready everything, to put the final touches and open our doors to welcome the children on the 2nd January ! How exciting to meet 'old' cute faces and getting to know the new ones. The logo and name of school have been taken off; will put up a new one later but it will not be on the building.  Insya Allah.

Holiday In School

Yes, teachers are back in school - preparing materials, name lists, teaching aids, 'repairing' library books which were torn, scribbled and so forth in this December. Interior walls in the classrooms are being painted over and the exterior walls of the school are also in the process of being painted. Chairs, tables, book racks, shoe racks, etc need to be repaired and painted. It's rather messy inside and outside now but the school will look very different once the painting job is done!

Eating The Sunnah Way

The teacher with the tray of  fruits.
We visited this Islamic kindergarten in Perth, Australia in 2009.    One of the Sunnah practiced in the school was to eat the fruits before the main food.  Every day, the children brought in fruits which were then collected by the teachers, washed, cut into small pieces and then put on a big tray.  At break time, the tray of fruits would be served on each table and shared by all children.  After all the fruits were eaten, the children would be allowed to eat other food they brought to school!    To me, there are other learning benefits for the children ~ they learned the names of different kinds of fruits, tasted a variety of fruits,  the concept of sharing, developed patience and discipline as they waited for the teachers to serve the fruits and perhaps many more.  Children also developed self-confidence as they were happy and proud to contribute the fruits ~ reflecting the parents' involvement in their children's growth and development.  An easy way to get blessings from Allah SWT and tons of other benefits for the children, teachers and parents.
Can you see the fruits piled up behind the bottles?

Food For Thought, Food For Children

This lovely and inspiring book was given by my son a few years back.  This book is a series of childhood recollections about an ideal school in Tokyo during WWII that combined learning with fun, freedom and love.  In real life, the Totto-chan of the book has become one of Japan's most popular TV personalities - Tetsuko Kuroyanagi.  She attributes her success in life to this wonderful school and its headmaster.  Devoted to welfare and conservation,  Kuroyanagi is Asia's first UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and serves on the board of the Worldwide Fund for Nature.  She is the author of 10 books.
One of the interesting topics covered in this book is about food, pages 31-32 ~ Sea Food and Land Food:
''Now it was time for 'something from the ocean and something from the hills, ' the lunch hour Totto-chan had looked forward so eagerly.
The headmaster had adopted the phrase to describe a balanced meal - the kind of food he expected you to bring for lunch in addition to your rice.  Instead of the usual "Train your child to eat everything,"  and "Please see that they bring a nutritiously balanced lunch," this headmaster asked parents to include in their children's lunchboxes 'something from the ocean and something from the hills.'
''Something from the ocean'' meant sea food - things such as fish, dried bonito, seeweed and tsukuda-ni  while 'something from the hills' meant food from the land - like vegetables, eggs,  beef, pork and chicken.
Mother was impressed by this and thought that few headmasters were capable of expressing such an important rule so simply. Oddly enough, just having to choose from two categories made preparing lunch seem simpler.''
In my travel to Korea, I observed that almost all of the children lunchboxes included fruits and some vegetables. There were many other groups of kindergarten children on that day and their lunchboxes were similarly packed.   The teachers said that the children had no problems eating the fruits &  veges.
