Trees and Parks

Junior 3 did a theme on 'TREES and PARKS' in March. Here are some of the learning activities they did.

These are the products from a tree.
The children cut out objects or things that are made from wood ~ using flyers or newspaper cuttings.
We had an excursion to Miri City Fan to study the parts of the trees, the types of trees, the creatures found in the trees and in the park.
Here's Ms Sutina briefing the children in her group of the things that they will be looking at.
Ms Ann and her group.

Ms Shafizan and her group.
Drawing and labeling parts of a tree.
Collecting the leaves from the trees in the park and looking at the different shapes of the leaves.
There are also some fruit trees found in the park.
Learning to read the directory/map of the park.
Next day, a review of what the children have done at the park. Here's Ms Ann is pointing out the places in the directory/map of the park and the trees that were found.
The children were divided into groups to reconstruct the directory/map of the park after looking at the photo.

A small book on the trip to the park.

Some of the things recorded : parts of a tree.
Leaves tracing.
A poem and the illustrations.

A Royal Day

In conjunction with the coronation of the 14th King and Queen of Malaysia on the 11th April 2012, we did a special topic on this historical event by holding 'A Royal Day'. The objectives of this learning activity were : to recognise the14th King and Queen, their names, the royal colours, homes of King and Queen, the royal regalia, and the coronation ceremony.
We held 'A Royal Day' on Friday, 13 April 2012. All the children were encouraged to come to school dressed as King and Queen.
The Junior 1 girls were beautiful and looked 'regal' with their crowns, sash and gowns.
A King with all his 'awards' pin to his chest. The red cape on the King had the name of the Kingdom on it.
Junior 2 Kings and Queens.
The children brought newspaper cuttings, photos of the King and any other materials related to this event. The teachers and children looked and discussed the materials brought in and later the children were asked to draw the King and Queen. These are the children's versions of the King and Queen.
For art and craft.

These are the work done by the 6 year olds, they wrote the names of the King and Queen. Note the throne.
A mum donated these cupcakes with crowns for the children. It tasted as good as it looked! Thank you very much to you!
The teachers were a sport and dressed up too! It was indeed a special day and the children learned who the King and Queen were, their names and many more. Most important, they had an enjoyable learning experience! Thank you to all parents who supported this activity !
