Father's Day

“Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or more attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say, “my Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy, even as they cherished me in childhood.”

(Quran 17: 23,24)

Father’s day is, celebrating fatherhood, their influence, and bond with their children.

Fatherhood in Islam is more than just being a provider. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was a great example of a father. When his own daughters came to visit, he stood up out of respect. He showed all mankind how a father should interact with his kids.

In Islam every day is Father’s day and mother’s Day in a sense that their children should honor them every day of their lives.

It is easy to achieve fatherhood, but it takes hard work to be a daddy. We have different types of dads.

There are the ones, that creates this magical childhood for their kids. They show their love toward their kids outwardly.

There are dads who do not voice their love for their kids, but they work really hard to create a comfortable, secure, and happy life’ even if it takes 2 or 3 jobs to work at. These fathers are often misunderstood.

There are dads who are just dads in name.

But does this really matter what label or category we put our fathers. Not really. If you truly love and honor your father than you should act accordingly throughout the year.

Also, if you wait till June 16th to show appreciation, and love to your dad, you might miss the boat. Don’t miss out, tell him today what he means to you, and learn from his mistakes, so you may not fall into the same trap.

Most dad doesn’t really want those “best father’s day gift” that is commercialized so much. Often times a loving reminder of your appreciation means more than you can imagine. So don’t waste your time researching the “perfect gift” , go visit your dad, spend time with him. Tell him that you still remember all the good times you spent growing up with him. Show him love, and respect.

Have a great Father’s day to all the dads out there!
