Welcome To 2013 School Session

Dear Parents,

I pray that you are in the best of health and iman. Hope that you had a good holiday with your family.  We are happy to see 'old' faces  -  my, how they have grown ! and we are delighted to receive all the ' new faces' and that your child is part of our kindergarten family!  We look forward to getting to know each child as we grow together this year.  Our class will provide each child with a safe and loving learning environment.  Each day will be filled with fun and exciting adventures to help your child develop spiritually, academically, and socially.

During the school holidays, we have painted the classrooms and taken down last year's children work, so the classrooms look a bit bare now.  Some of the teachers undergo in-service training which was organised by the Department of Education during the school holidays.  We doa that this knowledge will be blessed and benefit the children.

Let us doa that the knowledge that we impart to the children, all the learning experiences  and all things good to them will be the foundation to their future success,  be accepted and blessed by Allah SWT;   and that your children will grow to be a wonderful, well-mannered adult with good character,  a well-educated person with strong faith and who can contribute positively to the society.  Amin.

We look forward to working with you this year, for your support and cooperation so as to enhance your child’s learning development. Let's have a wonderful and fruitful year !

Thank you.

Parenting : Our Children, Our Future

This article was written by Sheikh Navaid Aziz from Little Explorers magazine, UK.

Before we have children we have this ideal in our minds of how we would like to raise them.  We look around us and take note of all the different parents around us and how their children behave.  We tell ourselves that when we have a child they will be the most well behaved, well mannered, hafiz at the age of 7! And then something funny happens. We actually start to have children and we end up becoming THAT parent.  You know which one I'm talking about!  The who we used to stare down during the Jumaat khutba' because their child wouldn't stop talking.

Parenting is not easy but then again that is why it is our biggest responsibility in this life.  Along with being a parent comes massive rewards and massive trials.  There is no magic formula to parenting. We learn by trial and error; what works for one child might not work for another. However, one thing that is important for all children is to create a trusting bond between them and their parents.  The best way to accomplish this is to lay solid groundwork from a young age. Below are a few points, that when implemented, will insha Allah create a nourishing environment for our children to flourish in.

1- Show Affection
Our children need to know that they are loved every day. For young children this can be accomplished with something as simple as a hug and kiss. As children grow older a surprise gift, no matter how small, shows them that you remembered them and that they are important to you.  And don't forget to use your words to express your love for them!

2- Recognition
Children need to know when you notice them doing something good. They are more likely to repeat the action again if it garners the parents' approval. If you see your 2 year old imitating you in salaah then turn to him when you finish and praise him for it. He will continue to do it every time you pray and will grow to love salaah.

3- Pay attention and hear
It is crucial for our children to be heard. Even if what they are saying does not make much sense they still need to have your undivided attention.  If they have an idea or a suggestion take it seriously!  If it is not feasible instead of making them feel like they are not worth your time or their idea was dumb,   offer an alternate idea.

4- Consistency
Family rules should be clear and consistent. Both parents need to agree on discipline and share the responsibility. Children should have a clear idea of what the consequences for a misbehaviour will be.

5- Surround them with good friends and resources
Children need to have fun and be entertained. As parents it is our responsibility to provide them with wonderful friends and halal entertainment! This is where wonderful projects like Little Explorers come in. They provide a fun way for our children to learn and get connected to Islamic history, current events, and even affords them the opportunity to ask questions and get involved! So don't forget to support all of the wonderful organizations who are investing in our children's futures!
