J3 TOPIC ON FOOD

Junior 3 did a theme on food and here are some of the learning activities.

1. Cows produce milk and the meat is a source of protein. The children also learnt the physical characteristics of the cow as shown by these drawings - cute looking cows.

The tail cannot be seen due to space constraint , ie the paper is small ~ but it is a cute and happy cow.

This is a 'serious' cow. Angelina focused on the udder. The udder of this cow is way down below the ...... ground? When asked, Angelina said ; 'Because the udder produces milk'.

2. A short poem and sounds made by the cow.

3. Cow crafts from toilet paper rolls.

4. For maths, the class made a simple chart of their preferences of food.

5. A short description of 'My Breakfast' in Bahasa Melayu with illustrations.

6. The children also cut out their favourite food from magazines and pasted them onto the styrofoam containers.

7. BROCCOLI IN THE FOREST

A salad made of carrots, sausages and broccoli but with a different way of presentation. We told the children to ask their parents to steam their salad so that it will be more acceptable for them to eat.

THEME : FOOD ~ PIZZA MAKING AT FRATINI'S RESTAURANT

1st March : The Junior 3 learned to make their own pizza at Fratini's Restaurant. The bus trip itself was exciting enough especially for those who has never ride on a bus. Some parents joined the trip too ~ thank you for coming with us and helping out with the kids.

Class of Junior 3. Fratini's restaurant. The restaurant has been prepared for the young chefs. After the introductions , the children were roaring to go. A briefing on the basic things to do, washed their hands and ............ ALL READY FOR ACTION NOW !!

Here's the CHEF ~ roll out the dough, then flip the dough ..................which had all the children gaping in AWE!!
Not all dough turned out to be round ~ some were oval or oblong.

Next, the cheese after the sauce.

Then other toppings : pineapple and pepperoni. There were many versions of how you can put the toppings ~ as created by the children in the following photos.

We hope these creations by the children will be a source of inspiration to the chef of Fratini's and other chefs.

Now every thing is done, time to bake the pizza in the oven.

Emmmmm !! This pizza is really GOOD ! And I made it! Enjoying the fruits of their hard work .................

J1 and RECEPTION CLASS THEME : SHAPES AND COLOURS

Colours and shapes are all around us, even in our food. In this theme, the teachers focused on some common colours and shapes. The activities carried out have been successful, largely due to the support and cooperation given by parents of Junior 1 and Reception class ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH! Some of the learning activities were :

GREEN DAY

'GREEN' represents fruits, vegetables and healthy living. Every one wore green and brought something green to school.

COLOUR PARTY

A colourful party ~ the children came in in colourful clothings and bought colourful food. Here's one child in red striped t-shirt and red jambu.

Now, what is the colour of the egg ? These girls looking at the slice of egg in the noodles.

HAT PARTY

Not an ordinary kind of party ~ these hats were made by their parents as a family project to reinforce 'shapes'. Thank you to all parents for supporting this activity and for coming up with very creative hats. Look closely at the hats and you will see lots of 'shapes'. Ms Hidayah with her round straw hat with her afternoon class. Ms Nurulanissa and Ms Hidayah with the morning class.

SHAPE PARTY

Shapes are all around us, even in our food. This party is about 'shapes' in food. We have AMAZING, CREATIVE and WONDERFUL MUMS who came up with creative ways of presenting edible shapes ~ see the photos below and the food were as good as they looked.

There were trianglular water melon slices, round swiss rolls, rectangular biscuits, star fruits, round tomato slices, heart-shaped nuggets, donuts and so on .........

Ms Ayu asked the children to say out the 'shape' they would like to eat.

Hmmmm ....... so many good looking 'shapes' to eat ! The rectangular donuts with colourful cream toppings were the favourites. This was a good party and the children enjoyed the various 'shapes'. Thank you to all parents who have supported this activity and made the party a success.


OTHER LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Making a mini book on shapes and sight words 'see', 'I', 'can' and 'a'.

Making a 'duck' out of the paper plate, circles and triangles. Paste some feathers from an old duster and became a beautiful mural of ducks ~ and no duck is the same!

Learning about colours as the children did these beautiful paintings.

These prints were made from colourful sand with biscuit cutters ~ the children learned colours and shapes. Here are examples of the print using green and yellow sand.
