Ramadan Camp

We had our Ramadan Camp for the Junior 3 only on Saturday, 4 August from 9.30 am to 9.30 pm in school. The children were excited and most stayed on till the night. We would like to thank our parents who have supported us to make this event a success, who have generously contributed food for Iftar and most all ~ for joining us. Thank you very much.

We started off the day with 2 rakaats of Solat Dhuha, circle time of zikir and nasyid.
Performing the solat Dhuha.

Then we had a baking class - making 'Apam Polka Dots'. Every one took turns to cream the mixture.
The paper cupcakes lining the moulds.
The children piping green and red mixture into the moulds. The red mixture were dotted into the green mixture, then steamed to cook.
The 'polka dots' Apam ~ not bad for a first timer. The children will have these for Iftar and the rest to bring home.
Hafalan Party. Children sitting in a circle and a box filled with names of short Surah was passed around to a nasyid.
When the 'nasyid' stopped ~ the child picked out a paper.
Here's Yasir looking at the Surah that every body will read together.
Then the children were divided into small groups. We set up 6 stations of different topics regarding Ramadan for the children to pass through, 20 minutes at each station. Every child had a folder to keep their work. These pictures show children in 2 stations.
Station 2 - with Ms Farisha.
The folder with various information regarding Ramadan ~ kept in pockets or notes.
Meanwhile, outside, other teachers were busy preparing tables and chairs for Iftar. The parents will be joining us for Iftar and for the solat Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih.
The front of the folder.
The inside of the folder - it contained 1. Tafsir Surah Al-Baqarah 183-185, 2. Hadith on fasting, 3. Facts of Ramadan, 4. Sahoor, 5. Iftar, 6. Zikir, 7. Good Deeds, 8.Practices Encouraged in Ramadan, 9.Doa for Iftar, 10.Niat For Fasting, 11.Battle of Badar, 12.Hadith about Dates, 13.learning to read some Arabic words, 14.Nasyid & Zikir Asmaul Husna.
Tafsir Surah Al-Baqarah - inside the pocket were the topics as shown in the following photos to explain the ayat 183-185.

The children wrote down the translation in BM.
These are the words for Zikir which the children coloured. These words were stapled together and kept in the pocket.
The meanings of Sahoor, Iftar, some Arabic words and the rate of Zakat Fitrah in Malaysia. The teachers explained the meanings of the words and what is zakat.
This pocket contained a small booklet of practices that are encouraged in Ramadan. The teachers encouraged the children to put forward ideas, listed them down and the children copied as many as they could in the time allocated.
This flap book contained examples of good deeds. The children were asked what good deeds they did and listed them down. Then the children wrote what they did in their small books.
To save time, we prepared these hadiths and the teachers explained to the children the meanings.
In this pocket, we put in the lyrics of the song 'Ramadan by Zaky' and nasyid 'Asmaul Husna' .
Facts on Ramadan.

We pray that the knowledge and effort in imparting the knowledge to the children will be accepted by Allah SWT and rewarded. We pray that through this small effort of ours, will help to make the children grow up into good Muslims and that through this event made our bonds with our parents closer. May Allah SWT reward all our parents who have contributed lots of food for the Iftar. Amin.

Most of these ideas were taken from Islamic lapbooking at http://imanbendjedidi.wordpress.com/2010/08/22/ramadhan-lapbook-14312010/ - Jazakallah khair for sharing the wonderful ideas.

2nd Semester Break and Eid Holidays

School will be closed from Wednesday, 15 August to Sunday, 26 August for Eid holidays and second semester school break.

Eid-un Sa'eed-un by Zain Bhikha

With Eid-ul Fitri coming up, this is one of the popular song/nasyid we are singing in the school. Please enjoy the nasyid and the meanings in the lyrics below.

In the mean time, please do not forget to help your child with the Ramadan check-list : write down the Surah or ayat he/she is reading in the Al- Quran at home, tick if he/she can recite the doa for Iftar, tick if your child wakes up for Sahoor and is learning to fast. Hand in the completed forms to the class teachers after the Eid holidays when school reopens. Thank you for your cooperation.

THE PROPHET'S SERMON ON RAMADAN

Baihaqi reported on the authority of Salman Al-Farsi (RA) that Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) delivered a sermon on the last day of the month of Sha’ban.

In it, Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) said,

“O People!
The month of Allah (Ramadan) has come with its mercies, blessings and forgiveness.
Allah has decreed this month the best of all months.
The days of this month are the best among the days
and the nights are the best among the nights
and the hours during Ramadan are the best among the hours.
This is a month in which you have been invited by Him (to fast and pray).
Allah has honoured you in it.
In every breath you take is a reward of Allah,
your sleep is worship,
your good deeds are accepted,
and your invocations are answered.

“Therefore, you must invoke your Lord in all earnestness with hearts free from sin and evil, and pray that Allah may help you to keep fast,
and to recite the Holy Qur’an.
Indeed!, miserable is the one who is deprived of Allah’s forgiveness in this great month.
While fasting,
remember the hunger and thirst on the Day of Judgement.
Give alms to the poor and needy.
Pay respect to your elders,
have sympathy for your youngsters,
and be kind towards your relatives and kinsmen.
Guard your tongue against unworthy words,
and your eyes from scenes that are not worth seeing (forbidden)
and your ears from sounds that should not be heard.

“Be kind to orphans
so that if your children may become orphans they will also be treated with kindness.
Do repent to Allah for your sins
and supplicate with raised hands at the times of prayer as these are the best times,
during which Allah Almighty looks at His servants with mercy.
Allah answers if they supplicate,
responds if they call,
grants if He is asked,
and accepts if they entreat.

“O people!
You have made your conscience the slave of your desires.
Make it free by invoking Allah for forgiveness.
Your back may break from the heavy load of your sins,
so prostrate yourself before Allah for long intervals,
and make this load lighter.
Understand fully that Allah has promised in His Honour and Majesty that people who perform salat (prayer) and sajda (prostration) will be guarded from Hellfire on the Day of Judgement.

“O people!
If anyone amongst you arranges for iftar (fast-breaking meal at sunset) for any believer,
Allah will reward him as if he had freed a slave,
and Allah will forgive him his sins.”

A companion asked:
“But not all of us have the means to do so”;
The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) replied:
“Keep yourself away from Hellfire though it may consist of half a date or even some water if you have nothing else.”

“O people!
Anyone who during this month cultivates good manners will walk over the Sirat (bridge to Paradise) on the day when feet will tend to slip.
For anyone who during this month eases the workload of his servants,
Allah will make easy his accounting,
and for anyone who doesn’t hurt others during this month, Allah will safeguard him from His Wrath on the Day of Judgement.
Anyone who respects and treats an orphan with kindness during this month,
Allah shall look at him with kindness on that Day.
Anyone who treats his kinsmen well during this month,
Allah will bestow His Mercy on him on that Day,
while anyone who mistreats his kinsmen during this month, Allah will keep away from His Mercy.

“Whoever offers the recommended prayers during this month,
Allah will save him from Hell,
and whoever observes his obligations during this month,
his reward will be seventy times the reward during other months.
Whoever repeatedly invokes Allah’s blessings on me,
Allah will keep his scale of good deeds heavy,
while the scales of others will be tending to lightness.
Whoever recites during this month an ayat (verse) of the Holy Qur’an will get the reward of reciting the whole Qur’an in other months.

“O people!
The gates of Paradise remain open during this month.
Pray to your Lord that they may not be closed for you.
While the gates of Hell are closed,
pray to your Lord that they never open for you.
Satan has been chained,
invoke your Lord not to let him dominate you.”

Taken from a post on a Muslim Mom’s group.

Ramadan Mubarak!

May Allah accept all your prayers.

Ameen.

Visit to Miri Public Library

Junior 1 and Reception Class made a visit to Miri Public Library on Thursday, 19 July 2012. Here is the group photo of the children , teachers and Madam Molly Arthur (from Miri Public Library).
Miri Public Library is located on the 1st floor, Dewan Suarah Miri building. We went to the library by chartered bus and for most of the children - it was the first time riding on a bus. Obviously, the children were thrilled and very excited. The children were singing all the way to the library.
Dewan Suarah Miri

The objectives of this visit were to introduce the children to the Publi c Library and its facilities, to encourage them to register as members, to development listening skills and understanding in story comprehension, fine motor skills development, creativity, to learn to conduct themselves socially with their friends and adults; to practice basic social etiquettes and to give new learning experiences to the children.

The children were greeted by Ms Teo Wee Leng, City Librarian and other library staff , namely Madam Molly Arthur and Madam Josephine. At the CHILDREN SECTION of the Library, Madam Josephine read a story to the children and later entertained the children with an ORIGAMI activity
.

The following photos show the children colouring their origami.
Waiting for the next activity.
Children singing and acting out the songs! Then it was time to go; but not before saying thank you and good bye to the staff of the Library ~ for entertaining us and giving the goodies given to the children.
Happy faces in the bus!
Well, not all looked happy ...... some were in awe ! And the children were singing all the way back to the school!

We hope that the children will register as members of the Library so an to enable them to enjoy the facilities given in the Library. Thank you to all the staff of Miri Public Library for making this visit a memorable one for the children.
