Welcome To 2012

To all our parents,

Salam !

We look forward to see all of you and welcome our NEW parents! We have been preparing teaching materials, rearranging the furniture, painting the walls, getting the classroom ready, and so on, ....... preparing activities for the first week of school to 'warm up' and to welcome the children. We have planned lots of fun and interesting activities for the children this year!

To help ease the transition from home to school for children who are first-timers , here are some suggestions :

1. Pack an extra set of clothes, in case of toileting accidents. Label all your child’s belongings.

2. Try to make your ‘farewells' short and sweet; do not stay in the classroom. Please wait outside if you are anxious about your child.

We will be giving out the red bags to all the children on the first day. Please read the letters from the class teachers. The letter is in the folder, in the red bag. There will be a Get-To-Know session this Saturday, 7 January for all our new parents.

There will be more things posted once school starts. We are very excited to work with you and your child, and look forward to an enriching and rewarding school year.

Here's wishing all of you "Happy New Year 2012' !

BOATS

Boats, boats, boats! - one of the topics under the theme 'Transport'. These are some of their learning experiences:
Origami boats. Can boats can float ? Some boats did float, but some (as you can see from the photo) - sank!
Some children can't resist the water. So, into the pool with the boats!
A small pool for those who did not like to get their feet wet (initial response).

Besides learning that boats are a type of transportation, the children learned the properties of water, concepts of sink and float. The best part of all ~ the children ENJOYED playing in the water with their friends. (FYI, all the three girls in the above photo also ended up in the water - can't resist the temptation !)

GRANDPARENTS DAY

We did a special topic on 'Grandparents' in September in conjunction with 'GRANDPARENT'S DAY'. All the children were asked to bring photos of their grandparents, from the maternal and paternal side. When we asked for the names of their grandparents ~ these are some of them : Nek Tok, Nek Aji, Atok, Nenek, Nek Lan, Nek Mah, Nek Laki, Nek Perempuan, Pak Nek, Mak Nek and many more. In this exercise, we asked the children to find out the 'real' names of their grandparents and talked with their parents to find out which are the maternal & paternal grandparents. Most children knew that grandparents were parents of their parents and they are special people. Then we discussed how we should care for them. We also read stories about grandparents to illustrate how special they are and their importance in our lives.

These are SOME of the drawings of the grandparents.
